Planning

Problem/Goal

New facilitators across all of my MATTER Innovation Hubs (MIH) have to be trained on using the Technology-Enabled Active Learning, plus STEAM (TEAL+) model we use in our program in a consistent, on-demand manner

Objective

Provide step-by-step training in an interactive format to allow my facilitators to be trained on TEAL+ in a consistent manner that doesn't require specific people to be on-site.

Stakeholders

MIH facilitators, Jamf Community Education Initiatives team.

Target Audience

MIH facilitators.

Execution

Design Process
With this project, I wanted to create an interactive training module to help my MIH facilitators learn about the TEAL+ model and be able to implement it independently within their own MIH. Whenever we bring on a new facilitator, we need to ensure they understand our teaching model so that we can maintain consistency across all MIH locations. We also need to ensure that this training can take place even if I or other members of my team are unable to be on-site. Additionally, it must be accessible, easy to follow, and effective regardless of a facilitator's demographic background or level of education.
Reflection
This project was very challenging for me at the beginning because I struggled to break the training down from several large components into a single focused topic: teaching the TEAL+ model. Once I understood how to build a training module and remain focused on a single learning objective, the rest of the project became much smoother. I had also never used flowcharts before, which presented another challenge early in the process. Thankfully, my professor hosted weekly office hours that I took full advantage of, and she did a wonderful job providing productive feedback that helped me make the necessary adjustments to ensure I was meeting the course requirements.
